Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Democratic candidate for 18th ‘ready to walk into Congress right now’
Pam Iovino was running for Congress in the 18th District before running for Congress there was cool. But the man she hoped to campaign against next year, Republican Tim Murphy, resigned amid allegations of an extramarital affair and the mistreatment of congressional staff. And Ms. Iovino has been reintroducing herself in what is, essentially, a whole new race.
“We’ve got to change this arc that [the country is] on right now,” Ms. Iovino, a Democrat, told a crowd of nearly 50 at a Bridgeville bar Sunday afternoon.
She cited a “reckless administration” in the White House, a deadlocked Republican Congress and “special interests … swarming to dismantle the health care that we worked so hard to get.”
“We can send a Democrat to Washington for the first time in quite some time,” she said during the stop, one of four she has made since Thursday in the counties making up the 18th: Allegheny, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland.
